At Brickell Cosmetic Center & Spa, they use the Alma Soprano® Ice Laser. The Soprano Ice Laser is a simple tool that delivers highly effective long-term laser hair removal. This laser uses a special heating method — gradual heat rather than a sudden blast of heat — that is very effective at damaging hair follicles while preserving the skin around them.
Prior to the laser hair removal treatment, a conductive gel is applied gently in the treatment area, allowing the treatment tool to move smoothly and effectively across your skin. The Soprano Ice Laser is applied to the treatment area in a sweeping motion, using constant motion to ensure that the whole area is properly covered. Treatment is painless in most cases.
Patients with nearly any skin type and hair color can get laser hair removal. It's easiest to treat dark hair because darker hair has more melanin in it. This allows for the optimal level of heat absorption, which in turn allows follicles to be damaged more easily.
While it's possible to use laser hair removal on lighter hair, it can be less efficient. The only type of hair that can't be treated well using laser hair removal is grey hair. Due to its shade, there is virtually no melanin within it, which means it can't be targeted effectively.
To prepare for laser hair removal, you should avoid excessive sun exposure including tanning beds for a full month ahead of the treatment. Also avoid using lotions, oils, or deodorant on the treatment area on the day of laser hair removal treatment.
For most Brickell Cosmetic Center & Spa patients, a total of six laser hair removal treatments works best. The treatments are usually quite short and easy, as little as 10-20 minutes for smaller areas. Treatments are planned about four weeks apart to allow time for the next cycle of hair growth to appear.
