Rejuvenate Lackluster Winter Skin With a Chemical Peel

Although winters in Florida aren’t exactly known for their polar vortices, they still bring shorter days with a low sun that can leave your skin looking dull and tired. What this season does offer is the perfect opportunity to do give your skin a little extra TLC, restoring a youthful glow just in time for spring.

At Brickell Cosmetic Center, our goal is to provide our Miami area clients with all of the tools they need to fight back against the effects of aging, exposure, and general wear-and-tear. As part of our arsenal, we offer professional chemical peels that address myriad problems in your skin, from fine lines to sun damage, giving it a more even, smoother tone.

If you’d like to rejuvenate your lackluster winter skin, here’s how our chemical peels can get the job done.

The winter blahs

As we noted above, Florida isn’t exactly Minnesota, with the sub-zero temperatures, driving snow, and howling winds that are part and parcel of winter. That said, the days are cooler, much shorter, and considerably drier during our relatively mild winters, and even these subtle changes can have an effect on your skin.

One of the biggest problems in winter is that your skin may be subjected to indoor heat, which can dry it out, leaving it without the necessary resources to glow from the inside out. And the air outside isn’t all that much better. Florida is known for its humidity, but the winter months are tough in this regard, leaving your skin parched for moisture.

And though we always caution you to stay out of the sun to prevent sun damage, the inevitable bit of sun that you get during the summer can give your skin a healthier hue. With less sun in the winter, your melanin goes on a little hiatus, leaving your skin a little paler, which only serves to magnify any blemishes or wrinkles you may have.

Starting fresh

To fight back against lackluster winter skin, we offer chemical peels of varying strengths that can tackle a host of skin problems, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage or age spots
  • Acne
  • Enlarged skin pores
  • Acne or surgical scars
  • Uneven skin tones

Even if you don’t have one of these specific problems, a chemical peel will strip away old and damaged skin cells, allowing newer, healthier ones to take their place giving your skin an overall boost in appearance.

Leave it to the professionals

Though there are no shortages of over-the-counter products that claim to give you the same results as a professional chemical peel, this is simply not true (and in some cases they can go beyond ineffective and damage your skin). Here at our practice, we only use products that are proven to be effective and made for professional use only.

Our team of aestheticians understands how to apply a chemical peel properly, giving you the best possible results.

Choosing the right peel

We use three different peels, one mild and one medium, which we source from reputable skin care companies. When you come to see us, we’ll sit down and review your skin to determine which peel would benefit you most.

For a lighter, surface peel, we turn to the Micropeel Sensitive Skin Solution™ by SkinCeuticals. This product is formulated with niacin, lactic acid, and usnic acid to gently exfoliate all types of skin. On top of clearing away dead skin, this chemical peel also decongests your pores, hydrates your skin, and helps reduce photodamage.

If you want to go a little deeper, we offer the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel™. The Blue Radiance Peel, like most peels, contains Salicylic Acid. However, it also contains a blend of lactic and glycolic acids, as well as the calming agents Willow Bark and Licorice Root. These extra calming agents make the Blue Radiance peel especially ideal for those with sensitive skin.

Another great option is Skin Ceuticals advanced corrective peel which is formulated with an exclusive blend of clinical-grade acids and a maximized peel concentration of phenylethyl resorcinol. This peel dramatically diminishes the appearance of discoloration, while smoothing texture and refining the appearance of pores.
